An exploration of nature texture.
Hello and welcome to my site!
My name is Anna. I am located in the North East of England in County Durham. This area and landscape is the inspiration of many of my works.
Outside of art I am a keen photographer, conservationist, lover of the outdoors and fitness, I do tend to collect hobbies! Many of these hobbies help to inspire what I paint for example surfing has inspired a myriad of works with the ocean woven in.
As a child I could often be found silently drawing or painting in the corner of a room. Throughout childhood and into adulthood this hobby became escapism. Having studied art to A level in school however I found I did not do well creating art within parameters set by an exam board. This experience really put me off pursuing art as I didn’t feel that I was good enough. Throughout my teenage years I dabbled in art though never spent a lot of time creating and when I did this was often related to my emotions at the time.
Later in life art and painting came back around by a family member buying me some paints as a present for Christmas. These were my first set of good quality paints. My development from this started with watercolour, I found myself painting most days with most muses being nature. Since then I have broadened my practice using any medium available. I still enjoy watercolour and inks as they allow you to paint without making a mess however I have moved mostly to oil and acrylic. I love the high impact results and having something substantial that can completely transform a room.
My love of creating is ever growing and every painting tends to be an experiment going through many stages before reaching its final destination.
The main things that I took away from this whole process are that if you want something enough you don’t need to study or have qualifications in it. The more you do it, the better you get, just keep practicing and you often learn the most from the failures!
